PHOENIX (CBS5) -

In the wake of Monday's office-involved shooting, several law enforcement groups are urging lawmakers to revisit a notification system aimed to alert the public when an officer has been attacked or shot.

The Arizona Highway Patrol Association and the Concerns of Police Survivors Arizona are renewing calls for the Senate and Gov. Brewer to take up Arizona Blue Alert.

House Bill 2323, sponsored by Representative Justin Pierce, is a notification system similar to the Amber Alert.

Using media broadcasts and Department of Transportation messaging signs, each Blue Alert would cover the state with information identifying a detailed description of the offender, the suspect's vehicle and license plate number.

It would be a cooperative effort between the State Department of Public Safety, State Department of Transportation, the Governor's Division of Emergency Management, broadcasters, law enforcement agencies and the general public.
