LAWTELL, LA (WAFB) - A deadly blaze has claimed the lives of two elderly Lawtell residents.
St. Landry District 3 firefighters were dispatched to the fire at Highway 358 at about 4:21 a.m. this morning, March 3. They found the wood frame house engulfed in heavy smoke and flames. Once the flames were under control, the bodies of Willis Amos Semien, 72, and his wife, Lou Anna Semien, 66, were discovered.
The victims lived at the home with their 19-year-old daughter, 14-year-old foster child, and their 11-year-old granddaughter. The children were able to escape the blaze and notify neighborhors who called 911.
Investigators found that the fire originated in the living room. However, the cause of the fire has not been determined yet.
