MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Darryl Bailey was sworn in as Montgomery County's new District Attorney Friday.

Bailey, the longtime Chief Deputy District Attorney for Montgomery County, is bringing 16 years of experience to the job.

Bailey attended Jones School of Law at Faulkner University where he graduated in 1996. He was hired into the Montgomery County District Attorney's office in 1997 following his admission to the Alabama Bar.

Judge Charles Price also swore in Azzie Taylor as the new Chief Deputy District Attorney Friday. She is the first African American woman to hold this position in Montgomery County. Taylor had been a Deputy District Attorney since 2003. 

Taylor graduated from the Jones School of Law at Faulkner University in 1996 and was admitted to the Bar in 2003. She is a 1998 graduate of Alabama State University where she studied Criminal Justice.

Longtime Montgomery County District Attorney Ellen Brooks announced her retirement Tuesday, effective immediately. She held the position since 1993.
