Solutions sought for statewide spike in substance abuse

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A brain-storming session was held today in order to address the recent spike in substance abuse throughout the state.

Today, the Human Services Department held their annual public forum where local leaders and the general public were invited to give feedback on substance abuse and mental health related issues.

"I'm very glad to be here today and participate and hear from the practitioners; hear from people who are in recovery; hear from the advocates," said Senator Sharon Weston Broome. "All of that is part of the equation towards a solution."

Human services will take the suggestions received today and work with legislators and other officials to improve their existing programs.
