Arrest made in French Settlement shooting

FRENCH SETTLEMENT, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said an arrest has been made in connection with a shooting that sent a man to the hospital Wednesday evening.

The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office reported Robert Higgins, 41, of French Settlement, faces an attempted murder charge in a shooting that happened near his home on La Trace Road around 7:30 p.m.

Deputies said the 40-year-old victim was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. At last report, the victim was listed in stable condition. His name was not released.

LPSO said Higgins was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. Detectives said the shooting was the result of an argument between the two men.

Higgins was booked into the Livingston Parish Detention Center on a charge of attempted second-degree murder. His bond was set at $75,000.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
