PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - All roads in Ascension Parish are now open after heavy rains caused flooding that resulted in the closure of several streets.
Parish President Tommy Martinez made the announcement Thursday morning.
Johnny Richardson, the assistant director of the Department of Public Works, said crews removed barricades Thursday morning from Summerfield South Road and Airport Drive.
Those were the last two roads still blocked by floodwaters after weekend storms dumped lots of rain on the area.
A total of six roads in the northern part of the parish were barricaded after the rainfall led to backwater flooding near Bayou Manchac and the Amite River.
