BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Southern University Board Member Calvin Braxton, Sr. says he's changed his mind and he will finish his term on the board.
Braxton resigned yesterday, sending a letter to Board Chairwoman Bridget Dinvaut.
He tells WAFB Channel 9 " I did some soul searching last night and after talking to students, fellow board members, the president of the alumni, and people from across the state and out of state, I decided to finish my term."
"I was very, very surprised by the outpouring of calls,' Braxton says. "They convinced me to stay and fight for Southern. I'm going to stay and fight for Southern."
Braxton says his resignation didn't have anything to do with board's decision not to renew Chancellor Jim Llorens' contract. He says it was something he had been thinking about doing for awhile.
The businessman from Nachitoches was appointed to the board by Gov. Jindal in 2011. His term will expire in 2016.
