Tulane's Yulman Stadium expected to be complete for next season

Updated:

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - Tulane students and fans will have an entirely new experience when a brand new stadium is complete.

Yulman Stadium will hold 30,000 people. It's taking shape on the north end of the campus. Construction crews are nearly finished building stands and seating areas.

The $70 million project is now in a new phase. The scoreboard is up.

There will eventually be a larger home side of the stadium that will contain club suites, and the other side will house a press box. Seating will completely enclose the field, bringing back the bowl look of the old Tulane Stadium.

The project stirred some controversy among neighbors and others, but it is moving forward. University leaders call it a game changer for Tulane.

"Tulane Stadium was such a historic icon, not only for Tulane students, but also for the bigger community. I think this stadium is going to create new traditions for students that are here and bring alumni back, but more importantly it will be a great resource for the New Orleans community," says Yvette Jones.

The stadium is expected to be complete for the start of next season.
