Two shooting victims found dead in Lakeview

Updated:

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) - New Orleans Police find two bodies, shot to death, in Lakeview Sunday afternoon. Police say the two men were shot in New Orleans East on Craigie Road then their bodies were taken to the 300 block of Kenilworth and left there.

The incident shocked neighbors who say Lakeview is a safe area. "It's real quiet. There's not a lot going on so to hear something like this it's kind of alarming,' said resident Chris Beacher.

"This is very unexpected. We do not get this type of activity in this neighborhood, its almost unheard of," said Nick Hajdu.

Police squad cars cordoned off several blocks after a passerby called 911 to report seeing two bodies lying alongside Kenilworth Street. Turns out this incident started at around 4:00 p.m. in New Orleans East. NOPD Lt. Gary Marchese explains, "Officers in the 7th District responded to an incident. As they're investigating, maybe 20 minutes into the investigation, we get a call over here of two bodies."

Police don't know why the bodies of the two men were brought to Lakeview. They're hoping to get more information from the original scene. "We do have people in New Orleans East on Craigie that have heard gunshots. We're in the process of getting a vehicle description. We're trying to get some surveillance video from that location," said Marchese.

Residents here say they realize no neighborhood is immune to crime but it's still so hard to see. "This is obviously very bad crime when somebody is dead. It's about as bad as it gets," said Hajdu.

Police say the victims were 19 and 21 years old. They've yet to release any information on suspects or a motive. If you know anything, call Crimestoppers.
