WAFB anchors take a plunge for LA Special Olympics

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Five WAFB anchors took the Polar Plunge this morning. The temperature was not quite freezing, but 56 degrees is certainly cold enough.

Johnny Ahysen used to torment Greg Meriwether on the morning show, so Greg decided to get a little revenge! Meriwether jumped in the lake at Cabela's right after pushing Johnny in the water. WAFB Meteorologists Jay Grymes and Steve Caparotta soon followed along with morning anchor Matt Williams.

They were freezing for a reason, though. It benefits the Special Olympics of Louisiana.

"It is the 6th year that we're doing it, it just keeps getting bigger and better," said spokesperson Tiffany Harvey. "We're on mark to raise about $40,000 this year. We've had a little bit over 80 different plungers who have raised money."

A lot of law enforcement agencies and first responders took the plunge as well. The money goes to the Special Olympics athletes.

Louisiana is sending a delegation of 101 athletes to the USA games this summer in New Jersey.
