BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A 14-year-old boy was shot in the back after he allegedly participated in an attempted armed robbery. Investigators are working to identify and locate the gunman.

According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, the incident happened on Thursday, Feb. 20 at roughly 7:30 p.m. It happened in the 1900 block of St. Croix Drive, which is located in a subdivision off of Nicholson Drive.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found the teen suffering from a gunshot wound to the back, and Elijah Ross, 19.

"[Ross] waited with the [teen] until the deputies and EMS arrived," the deputy noted in the probable cause report. "[Ross] admitted that earlier in the night, he and his co-defendants planned to rob an unknown person of narcotics."

Ross claims he and the teen arranged a meeting with the unknown person. When they arrived for the meeting, the teen grabbed the narcotics from him and took off running.

"The unknown person began approaching [Ross] so he pulled the handgun from his waistband and cocked it," notes the report. "[Ross] and the unknown person then struggled for control of the gun, causing it to discharge."

At that point the unknown person took control of the gun and allegedly fired it at the 14-year-old boy. The bullet struck the teen in the back and he fell to the ground. Ross claims the unknown man got away.

Ross was arrested at the scene and charged with illegal carrying of a weapon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Both are felony charges. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and his bond is set at $1,500.
