BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police at LSU are asking students and faculty to be vigilant while walking around campus, after an attempted abduction Thursday night.

The LSU Police Department said a female student was almost kidnapped near Patrick Taylor Hall on Nicholson Extension around 7:30 p.m.

The victim told detectives she was walking back to her car when a man who had been sitting in a black box van stepped out and tried to grab her.

The girl told police she broke free and went to authorities, but the suspect got away.

"Our investigators were here until the early morning hours working on it and they're back at it today and right now, we're gathering all information, all possible pieces of evidence and any information we can to try to work our way through this," said Capt. Corey Lalonde, the spokesperson for LSUPD.

Police added the suspect is described as a 6'1" black man with a receding hairline and shaved cuts in his eyebrows. The van driven by the suspect was described as a black older model box van with tinted windows and side double doors.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
