BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Governor Bobby Jindal recently held a reception at the Governor's Mansion to honor ten of Louisiana's longest married couples.
"Supriya and I were honored to spend time with these couples," Jindal says.
"The couples are an example to all of us about the incredible institution of marriage."
Louisiana's longest married couple – Norman and Norma Burmah – was married in 1931. Norman is 102 years old and Norma is 99 years old. They have two daughters, six grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The Burmahs are members of the Louisiana Family Forum's (LFF) Marriage Hall of Fame.
Since 2002, LFF has identified Louisiana's longest married couple to honor the institution of marriage.
LFF's first recognized Longest Married Couple was George and Germaine Briant in 2002.
The governor and first lady have honored the couples since 2008.
