FRENCH SETTLEMENT, LA (WAFB) - A 16-year-old girl died last night after a tragic accident in Livingston Parish.
Chief Brignac of the French Settlement Police Department confirmed that the incident happened shortly before 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19. We're told the teen was running along Hwy. 16 when she was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
"She crossed over to the opposite lane and was clipped by a vehicle," Chief Brignac said. "The impact threw her into the other lane and she was then hit by another vehicle coming from the other direction."
The Livingston Parish Coroner's Office confirmed that the official cause of death is multiple traumatic injuries caused by a motor vehicle.
"There was no alcohol involved. All of the drivers stopped," Chief Brignac said when asked if any criminal charges were filed. "She was wearing dark clothes and it was a dark area. It was unavoidable and very tragic."
Due to her age, officials have not released her name.
