BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The male whooping crane that was found wounded in Jefferson Parish on Feb. 7 has been euthanized at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.
Wildlife officials believe the male crane along with a female was shot on Feb. 6. The female was found dead at the scene. The male was brought to LSU where he underwent surgery. At first, he was recovering well, but his condition slowly deteriorated. He was euthanized Wednesday, Feb. 19.
A $15,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting the two whooping cranes. Anyone with information on this incident can contact LDWF's Enforcement Division by calling 1-800-442-2511.
