DUTCHTOWN, LA (WAFB) -

Three Ascension Parish public schools were placed on lockdown after a reported robbery at a nearby bank Wednesday afternoon.

Dutchtown Primary, Dutchtown Middle, and Dutchtown High School were all on lockdown as of 1 p.m.,  school system spokesman Johnnie Balfantz said.

He also told WAFB that the three schools were on lockdown for "less than 30 minutes" while police secured the area.

Balfantz says a sheriff's deputy has been placed at each school as a precaution.

The reported bank robbery happened at Red River Bank on Highway 73 near Harvest Supermarket.

Deputies are searching for a black male that entered the bank wearing a motorcycle helmet with some type of light jacket. The suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded money from the bank employees.

The suspect then left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash.

The suspect may have headed south on Highway 73 as a passenger in a light colored 4-door sedan. The gunman is described as being about 6'1" in height with a slim to medium build.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $1,000 cash reward and Red River Bank is offering a $2,500 reward.

Anyone with information is urged to call Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office at 225-621-4636 or by texting an anonymous tip to 847411 or call Crime Stoppers at 225-344-7867.
