BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Southern University's Association for Women Students (AWS) will be honoring Chancellor's James Llorens' wife Glenda as part of its "SU Girls Rock" event.

The event which is similar to BET's award show "Black Girls Rock," will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Royal Cotillion Ballroom at the Smith Brown Memorial Student Union. Its mission is to empower women and recognize the many inspiring and talented women in the Southern community. The event was started last year.

"My goal is to get more women to come out and learn about AWS as well as recognize the beautiful women on campus," said AWS President Megan Henderson.

In addition to Llorens, the group willrecognize the women's athletics teams and the Royal Court.

It is free and open to the public.
