Jackson State pitchers Christopher Wingard and Andre Rodriguez held Southern scoreless until two out in the ninth inning, and Bryce Taylor led JSU's ten hit attack going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI as the Jaguars dropped a 6-2 decision Tuesday night in Jackson, Mississippi.
Shortstop Sergio Torres had a two-run single off Rodriguez in the ninth to break up the shutout. On a night when JSU alumnus and former MLB pitcher Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd threw out the ceremonial first pitcher, the Jaguars were held to just four singles and struck out nine times.
Southern (2-2) returns to action Friday night at home for the first of two games against BRCC.
