Southern beats Grambling 7-5 in season opener

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Southern jumped on Grambling for three first inning runs and never looked back, taking their season opener over their arch-rival 7-5 Friday night in the Major League Baseball Urban Invitational.

DJ Wallace plated the game's first run with an RBI single, and finished the night 4-for-4 with three RBI. Wallace also plated a run in the fifth to give his Jaguars a 5-0 lead, before the Tigers rallied to make it close.

Southern starting pitcher Santos Salvador pitched three innings of scoreless 1-hit baseball with four strikeouts to earn the victory.
