Woman killed in accident on Route 10 in Chester

CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Chesterfield Police have confirmed that a 39-year-old woman is dead following a fatal two vehicle crash near Hopewell.

A mother, daughter, friend, and loving person--those are just some of the words a family friend used to describe 39-year-old Ann Whisnant.

"I still can't even believe it.  I still am in shock.  I still want it to be wrong," a friend of Whisnant's said.

Police say Whisnant's car pulled out in front of a tractor trailer that was driving eastbound on Route 10.  The truck forced Whisnant's car off the road.  Police say both vehicles caught fire and that the truck was also leaking fuel.  Whisnant was pronounced dead at the scene.

Route 10 was shutdown to traffic just after that accident on Friday evening.  It reopened to traffic 10 hours later but crews are still working to remove debris from the road.

Word of the crash quickly spread on social media. Several people sent words of encouragement reading, "So sad to hear this.  Every time I saw her she had a huge smile on her face.  Prayers going out to her family"

Another post read, "A very good person and great friend.  Ann will be missed by so many; rest in peace."

"She really just protruded happiness, genuineness--just positive," a family friend said.

Friends say their heart goes out to her family especially her 19-year-old daughter.

"Losing her mom like that--I have a 19-year-old child and I just couldn't imagine something like that happening."

No charges are being placed against the driver of the tractor trailer at this time. Police continue their investigation into the crash.
