LOS ANGELES (WAFB) - Former New Orleans Saints football player Darren Sharper was charged Friday with drugging and raping two women, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced.

Officials said one incident happened in October and the other was just last month.

Sharper is charged with two counts of rape by use of drugs, four counts of furnishing a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance. All of the charges are felonies.

Sharper was arrested Jan. 17 by detectives with the Los Angeles Police Department. He was later released on $200,000 bail.

If convicted, Sharper faces more than 30 years in a California prison.

Sharper, a five-time Pro Bowl player, signed with New Orleans in 2009 and helped the Saints win Super Bowl XLIV against the Indianapolis Colts.
