NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) - The 2014 NBA All-Star weekend is expected to draw large crowds in the French Quarter and around the metro New Orleans area.
With the increased traffic, State Police believe there will be an increase in aggressive and impaired drivers on the roadways.
LSP is partnering with the New Orleans Police Department and the State Fire Marshal's Office throughout the weekend.
The added 120 Troopers will focus primarily on proactive patrols, criminal investigations, crowd control and traffic control.
"State Police remains committed to ensuring the safety of Louisiana's citizens and tourists as the city of New Orleans hosts another NBA All-Star weekend," stated Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent. "For decades, Troopers have deployed to New Orleans in support of our New Orleans Police Department partners, the citizens and the visitors to our great city. We will be visible and proactive in our patrols while serving as ambassadors to the citizens and tourist as they enjoy the All-Star festivities."
