BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana now joins the ranks of states entangled in a marriage equality lawsuit.
Four gay couples legally married in other states and the Forum for Equality Louisiana filed the suit in New Orleans Wednesday.
They want Louisiana to recognize same-sex marriages performed in states where it is legal to do so.
That would allow couples who move to Louisiana to file joint-tax returns or have joint custody of children.
The lawsuit uses the Supreme Court's decision to strike down the defense of the Marriage Act as the backbone of its argument.
