BAKER, LA (WAFB) - Two women are hospitalized and a man was arrested on several charges, including DWI, after a hit and run pedestrian crash Tuesday evening.

The Baker Police Department said Kristy Hasty, 31, is listed in critical condition and Amy Gibson, 29, was stable at last check. They are both from Denham Springs. Jamar Jackson, 34, of Baker, faces the following charges:

First-degree vehicular negligent injury (2 counts)

Hit and run

Reckless operation of a vehicle

Driving under suspension

Failure to report an accident

Police Chief Mike Knaps said the victims were hit on South Magnolia Drive in Baker around 6 p.m.

According to investigators, witnesses said they heard a loud 'bang' and ran outside to find out what happened and saw the two women lying in the roadway. The witnesses also reportedly identified Jackson as the driver of a black Monte Carlo.

Officers said they found the car parked on South Magnolia and saw it had front end damage, including a broken front windshield with clothing embedded in it. They added they ran a check on the car and Jackson is the registered owner.

Authorities reported finding a man standing in the roadway and confirmed it was Jackson. They said they also learned his driver's license was suspended and had been expired since 2005.
