BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Southern will call a special board meeting to discuss the Chancellor's contract. Students had asked for the meeting to protest the board's recent decision to not renew Jim Llorens contract.
They say this is a "huge step."
"The board listened," said SGA President Simone Bray. "They responded to what we felt . We just made a huge step."
The students have been protesting since Friday when the board made the decision.
They setup a Facebook page, held a meeting Monday night that drew hundreds, and held a sit-in Tuesday at President Ronald Mason's office.
The students say the chancellor has done a great job and they don't want him to leave.
Llorens contract expires in June. Llorens added he was not interested in a contract extension because the president wanted to take over some of the duties and he wasn't comfortable with that.
The meeting date has not been scheduled yet.
