Man arrested for DWI after crashing into BRPD vehicle

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - According to officials with the Baton Rouge Police Department, a Lafayette man was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated after he crashed into a parked police cruiser in Downtown Baton Rouge.

It happened Friday night in the 300 block of Florida Blvd. Police say Jason Sterling Shapiro, 23, failed to maintain control of his vehicle and struck a marked police unit parked on the side of the road.

Police say Shapiro had slurred speech, swaying balance, and smelled of alcohol. The breathalyzer showed his BAC to be .159g%.

Shaprio was arrested and charged with DWI, failure to maintain control, reckless driving, no insurance and driving with suspended license.

He was released from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a $3,900 bond.
