Race horses perish in Lafayette barn fire

LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) - The Lafayette Sheriff's Office is investigating a barn fire that resulted in the death of at least four race horses.

The fire was reported at roughly 1:00 p.m. It happened at a holding facility located in the 1000 block of Dugas Road.

"It still too early to tell how the fire was started," Capt. Kip Judice said. "Investigators are still on the scene sifting through the evidence."

Capt. Judice noted that six horses were inside the barn when the fire broke out. He says the condition of the two remaining horses is unknown at this time.
