BRPD K9 catches burglar in the act, stolen handgun recovered

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A 51-year-old man from Texas was arrested in Baton Rouge after he was allegedly caught attempting to burglarize a business.

According to the probable cause report filed on Friday, Feb. 7, the Baton Rouge Police Department responded at roughly 3:00 a.m. to an activated alarm at Donmoor Food Mart. The business is located in the 1000 block of North Donmoor.

"When the K9 arrived, the officer searched the building," Cpl. L'Jean McNeely, Baton Rouge Police Department, explained. "He made contact with the suspect, who surrendered without incident."

Mandell Croxton was found hiding in the back of the business. The report notes that he was holding a box filled with various items. They also found him in possession of a firearm.

"The weapon was reported stolen to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office," Cpl. McNeely noted.

Croxton was arrested and charged with aggravated burglary, illegal possession of stolen things, illegal possession of a firearm, resisting an officer, and felon in possession of a firearm.
