BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

LSU special teams coach Thomas McGaughey has been named to the same position with the New York Jets.

McGaughey served as the Tigers' special teams coordinator for the past three years helping LSU to a 33-7 record and an SEC Conference title in 2011.

McGaughey has also had coaching stops with the Denver Broncos, the Kansas City Chiefs and the University of Houston.

Among McGaughey's standouts during his time at LSU include two All-America return specialists in Tyrann Mathieu and Odell Beckham Jr., along with All-America punter Brad Wing.

"This is a great opportunity for Thomas," LSU coach Les Miles said. "He will do a great job with the Jets. We wish Thomas and his family continued success in the future."

Miles said he will begin an immediate search for McGaughey's replacement.

The announcement of McGaughey's departure comes one day after LSU finished with the No. 2 ranked recruiting class in the nation.
