BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Surprised, is how some people felt, after learning the well known pharmacy CVS, will stop selling tobacco products. Meaning if you want to buy a pack of cigarettes or a can of dip, you will have to look somewhere else. Catherine Sartain is a smoker who said she is trying to break her bad habit and is glad CVS took this big step on its own.
"Honestly, I think that it is a good idea. I think it is kind of ironic that they sell cigarettes in a pharmacy," said Sartain.
Chrishelle Stipe, is the tobacco sensation specialist at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. She said this is something the tobacco control community has been working to get pharmacies to do for years.
"They are providing medication to benefit people's health, so it makes sense to stop selling these products that are causing chronic illnesses," said Stipe.
The national drug store chain will stop selling all tobacco products from its stores by October.
