BUTLER CO., AL (WSFA) -

The woman who was chosen as Butler County's interim superintendent following Darren Douthitt's departure in February was officially named superintendent Thursday.

With cheers from community members and parents, the Butler County Board of Education moved Thursday to name Amy Bryan as the new superintendent and she accepted.

Bryan's contract is for three years and will pay $130,000 per year, approximately the same as her predecessor's $132,000 salary. Her first official day in the position will be April 1.

With 26 years of experience in the district, most recently serving as federal program director, Bryan says she can hit the ground running.

"I don't have to learn where the schools are, who the administrators are and all of those kinds of things. I know where we are and where we need to go," Bryan said. "We have SACS accreditation coming up next year. We have already set our date for September and we already have some plans in place to help us get ready for that accreditation. We have a strategic plan in our future that we need to have done by August and we have already started our community input meetings for that and we talked about the framework and how it's going to look."

Douthitt announced his resignation in January to take the same position in Anniston.
