A 34-year-old man was arrested for child desertion after police found his 5-year-old child in his home without any adult supervision.
According to the arrest report filed by the Baton Rouge Police Department, the incident happened on Friday, Jan. 31 at roughly 4:30 p.m. We're told an officer was dispatched to the home located on S. Ardenwood Dr. after child services reported that a 5-year-old boy was alone in the home alone.
The juvenile told the officer that he could not open the doors from the inside, so the officer "was required to use forced entry to ensure the safety of the juvenile.
The report states that the child's father, Devin Simon, was not in the home, but it did not state the length of time the child was left alone. Also, the report did not indicate when or where they located him.
Simon was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of child desertion. His bond was set at $10,000 and he was released the following day.
