Deputies investigating deadly flea market carjacking in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) - The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office reports that a man was shot and killed during a carjacking that happened in the parking lot of a business on N W Evangeline Thruway Sunday night.

When deputies arrived, they found 49-year-old Michael Patin of Arnaudville shot once in the back. Witnesses on the scene told deputies it happened during a carjacking in the parking lot of Jockey Lot around 11 p.m.

The Jockey Lot is an open-air flea market.

Officials say Patin worked at the Jockey Lot. He was taken to a Lafayette hospital where he later died.

Deputies say several suspects were taken into custody, but because of their ages, no additional information has been released.

The investigation is ongoing.
