Super Bowl ads get all warm and fuzzy

Many brands opted to stir emotions rather than go for the cheap laughs during Super Bowl XLVIII. Budweiser pretty much cheated with "Puppy Love," a commercial about a love struck puppy and a Clydesdale. "A Hero's Welcome" was also incredibly touching. Radio Shack seems to understand its image problem, and an "average Joe" was punk'd while having one epic night courtesy of Bud Light. 

You have to think, the blowout victory by Seattle (43-8) likely reduced the audience for second-half advertisers.

Bruno Mars dazzles in halftime performance

Bruno Mars started with a drum solo then joined his band for a bouncy Motown/disco funk/pop/hip-hop number. At one point, he did some fast-footed dance moves. The lights dazzled. There were fireworks. The Red Hot Chili Peppers joined him on stage to sing "Give It Away Now." Tickets actually go on sale Monday for his Jun. 27 show at U.S. Bank Arena.

Did you know: Philip Lawrence II, who sings backup vocals for Bruno Mars, is actually from Evansville, Ind. The drummer, Eric Hernandez, is Bruno Mars' brother.

Super Bowl IV ticket was $15 in 1970

At the top of Reddit Monday morning was a photo of a Super Bowl ticket valued at $15. User cjbluegreenpurple posted on Reddit, "In response to the $14 Super Bowl beer, I present my Dad's 1970 Super Bowl ticket." The average asking price for a ticket this year was $2,645.12. The cheapest ticket for sale as of Saturday night was $1,600.

JC Penney Super Bowl tweets puzzle Twitter users

We're not sure what happened to JC Penney's Twitter account during the Super Bowl. The department store's account posted a number of tweets during the first half of the Super Bowl that was basically gibberish. Examples:

"@jcpenney: Who kkmew theis was ghiong tob e a baweball ghamle. #lowsscorinh 5_0"

"@jcpenney: Toughdown Seadawks!! Is sSeattle going toa runaway wit h this???"

Many thought the account was hacked, or perhaps, the JC Penney social media manager went rogue. The brand later tweeted more coherently that they were #TweetingWithMittens and threw in a plug for the US Olympic team.

Esurance to give away $1.5 million on Twitter

John Krasinski announced some exciting news during the Esurance 2014 Super Bowl Commercial, which was the first ad to air after the big game. Using #EsuranceSave30 on Twitter will count as an entry to potentially win $1.5 million. Esurance chose to run a commercial after the Super Bowl, which according to the auto-insurance provider, is 30% (or $1.5 million) cheaper than buying one during the game. It's the biggest sum of money ever given away on the social network.
