BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - People in Baton Rouge are trying to bring color back to a gray area of the city. Melrose East also known as Mall City is getting a makeover as kids and community members paint a mural on Harry Drive.
The wall was donated by local pastor Ralph Moore of Victory and Power Ministries. School board member Evelyn Jackson said she has been working on this project for some time.
"This is the beginning of the red stick project. A vision that's been mine for at least 15 years we are taking the arts to the streets," said Jackson.
Kids and community members painted several pieces of art on the wall. The inspiration came from the many artistic names on the streets throughout the area. Artist Elliot Guillory said this is something he loves to do.
"I love this community, I am from Baton Rouge and I like to leave a legacy. When I am gone, I like to have my name somewhere," said Guillory.
They are expecting to be finish with the mural by next weekend.
