BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Just like most cities and towns across south Louisiana, Baton Rouge saw its share of winter mess and it is sticking around.

Roads and highways continued to be covered in ice and slush throughout the overnight hours.

Officials with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), along with city leaders were ready, keeping the roads clear as long as possible.

Mayor Kip Holden warned people Tuesday the hazardous roadway conditions were not over.

"It is very imperative that people don't relax during this time," Holden said. "That people don't take for granted that they know the weather and therefore, they do things that even you may say or I may say are dangerous and understand that this is still a situation that can do serious and bodily danger."

The mayor, along with emergency responders, asked people to stay inside unless absolutely necessary.
