BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge police officer has been arrested on a charge of DWI and placed on administrative leave after possibly being involved in a two-vehicle crash early Friday morning.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said Officer Steven Zach Woodring, 32, was off-duty when an accident happened on I-12 near the Sherwood Forest Boulevard exit around 3:40 a.m.
According to the probable cause report, a breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol content was .236 percent, which is nearly three times the legal limit.
Investigators reported Woodring, a five-year veteran of BRPD, was driving his 2010 Toyota Tundra and a woman driving a 2003 Honda Odyssey were both headed eastbound on I-12 when the driver of the minivan lost control and the vehicle flipped.
Police said Woodring pulled the woman out of the van and authorities were contacted. They added the woman was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities said it is believed icy conditions on the road contributed to the crash, which is still under investigation.
Woodring was released from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a $3,500 bond.
