Burglars thwarted by police after chase in Broadmoor Forest-area

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Two attempted burglars were thwarted by police and are now booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. A third suspect, however, escaped.

The incident happened at roughly 11:40 a.m. at an apartment located on Marilyn Drive, which is located near the Broadmoor Shopping Center. According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, an officer working uniformed patrol responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot.

"Officers were able to prevent the suspects from leaving the parking lot in their vehicle by blocking them in," Cpl. L'Jean McKneely, BRPD, said.

Three males got out of the vehicle and took off running. Officers caught Dwayne Cossett, 30, and Felton Brown, 22, after a brief chase.

"Cossett attempted to disarm the officer of his taser while resisting arrest," Cpl. McKneely said.

Both men were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. They are charged with attempted burglary of an inhabited dwelling, criminal damage to property and resisting arrest. Cossett has an additional charge of disarming a peace officer.

The third suspect has not yet been identified. If you know anything regarding his identity of the third suspect, call Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-STOP (7867).
