Teen turns himself in for deadly hit and run and armed robbery

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police said a 17-year-old has turned himself in to authorities in connection with a deadly hit and run crash and armed robbery.

The Baton Rouge Police Department said Melvin Morgan of Baton Rouge surrendered Thursday morning.

He faces the following charges:


Armed robbery

Aggravated flight

Hit and run

The search continues for two other suspects.

According to investigators, Elvin Dunn Jr., 37, was thrown out of his 1989 Lincoln Towncar after it was hit by a 1997 Ford Crown Victoria on North 30th Street at Fairfields Avenue late Monday night.

Police said the driver and two passengers in the Crown Vic were fleeing officers when the crash happened.

According to investigators, the three men who jumped out of the car and ran away are suspects in an armed robbery.

Detectives said the crime happened on Blue Grass Drive at Glen Oaks Drive around 3:25 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing.
