Southeastern Lions add five transfers for 2014

HAMMOND – Five student-athletes who formerly participated at the Football Bowl Subdivision level have enrolled at Southeastern Louisiana University and will continue their academic and athletic endeavors as members of the Southeastern football program, Lion head coach Ron Roberts announced on Wednesday.

The newest Lions are defensive backs Jordan Batiste (5-8, 169, Gramercy, La.), Micah Eugene (5-11, 188, Lafayette, La.) and Jerqwinick Sandolph (6-1, 201, Boutte, La.), quarterback D'Shaie Landor (6-0, 187, Lafayette, La.) and offensive lineman Aaron Reed (6-4, 312, El Paso, Texas).

Batiste comes to Hammond from Tulane, Landor was previously at Louisiana-Lafayette, while Reed is a Southern Mississippi product. Eugene and Sandolph both come to Southeastern from LSU.

Batiste, Eugene. Reed and Sandolph will have two years of eligibility remaining, while Landor has three years left to compete in the green and gold.

Batiste was an honorable mention All-Conference USA selection in both of his seasons with the Green Wave. As a sophomore, the second team All-Louisiana selection led TU with four forced fumbles and seven sacks, while also finishing with 35 tackles, eight pass breakups, one interception and one fumble recovery. As a freshman, he started 10 games and posted 41 tackles, eight pass breakups and an interception.

Batiste prepped at Lutcher High School, where he was a two-time All-State and All-District selection. He helped LHS to three district titles during his career, totaling 328 tackles and seven interceptions. He was rated a three-star recruit by,, and prior to signing with Tulane.

Eugene played in 25 games in his two seasons in Baton Rouge, recording 62 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. He was an All-State performer and District 3-5A as a senior at Acadiana High School, helping his squad to a 5A state title. Rated a three-star recruit by and, he was a member of the Advocate's Super Dozen, playing both defensive back and running back.

Sandolph saw action in 12 games during his time with the Tigers, finishing with six tackles playing predominantly on special team coverage units. Landor joins the Lions and will provide depth behind seniors Bryan Bennett and Jordan Barnett. After redshirting at Louisiana-Lafayette at 2012, the Teurlings Catholic High School product saw action in three games in 2013. The state offensive MVP as a senior at Teurlings, he was ranked the No. 40 dual-threat quarterback in the nation and a three-star prospect by both and

Reed spent his freshman season at Scottsdale Junior College, before redshirting at Southern Miss in 2012. As a sophomore, he played in eight games for the Golden Eagles, starting at right tackle versus Nebraska and Arkansas. Reed prepped at Chapin High School, where he was a district champion in the discus.
