BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An 18-year-old is being held on a $3,500 bond after he crashed his vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol, police say.
The crash happened on Jim Taylor Road in Tigerland at roughly 8:25 pm on Tuesday, Jan. 21. Caleb Lee Walters is accused of hitting a vehicle that was parked on the road. He allegedly fled the scene, but was apprehended shortly thereafter.
"He hit the vehicle head-on," Cpl. Don Coppola, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. "There was severe damage to his vehicle and minor damage to the other vehicle."
The arresting officer noted that Walters displayed signs of intoxication. He allegedly admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages and submitted to a breathalyzer test. His BAC registered as a .155 percent.
Walters was arrested and charged with DWI (first offense), reckless operation, and hit-and-run. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
