BAKER, LA (WAFB) -

Baker Police Chief Mike Knaps says an arrest has been made in the shooting death of a 19-year-old man.  Chief Knaps says officers arrested 17-year-old Kenard Maurice Gaines Monday night.

The shooting happened Sunday around 6:30 p.m. at a home in Baker.

Kortlon Johnson, 19, of Baton Rouge was shot three times and was found dead behind a home on Daniels Street.

Police say Gaines was with a group of people at the Daniels Street home. The victim, Kortlon Johnson, arrived and asked Gaines to step outside. They walked into the street and began to argue. That is when police say Gaines shot Johnson.

Reports say Gaines ran off and Johnson fell to the ground.

Gaines will be charged with second degree murder and illegal use of a weapon.
