KENNER, LA (WWL-TV) -

KENNER, La. -- A New Orleans woman who was hired to care for two elderly people was arrested by authorities for stealing nearly $14,000 from those who she was hired to care for, according to Kenner Police.

In July 2013, Brandy McCadney, 29, was hired from Comfort Keepers to provide care for two elderly people -- a 92-year-old and 80-year-old -- preparing meals, giving minor medical assistance, running errands and driving the clients to appointments, said Kenner Police.

"In September 2013, the victims received a telephone call from Regions Bank informing them of several unusual withdrawals and spending from their checking account.  During the telephone conversation, Brandy McCadney stood up and said that had to leave for an appointment and abruptly left the residence never to return," said Sgt. Brian McGregor, a spokesman for Kenner Police.

After meeting with bank representatives, the two people learned that 16 transactions were completed at a Wal-Mart, 13 transactions from a Chase ATM and seven transactions from the Regions Bank ATM -- the total amount of the unauthorized transactions and withdrawals was $13,199.02, said Kenner Police.

McCadney was identified by police as being responsible for the unauthorized transactions and withdrawals from the victims account by using video from the locations where transactions occurred, police said.

McCadney was arrested by police Friday and charged with theft of assets of an aged or disabled person valued at $13,199.02 and access device fraud. McCadney remains in custody, no bond has been set.

Anyone with information concerning this incident or similar thefts is asked to call the Kenner Police Detective Jeff Adams at 504-712-2310 or Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
