BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Several teens are facing charges after an alleged gun deal at a high school and the 20-year-old brother of one of the students, who is accused of trying to run over a sheriff's deputy with a car, was also arrested.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office reported Compton East, 20, his brother, Cody East, 18, Calen Billingsley, 17, and an unidentified 16-year-old boy were all booked on weapon charges. The three teens are all students at Tara High School in Baton Rouge.
Compton East was arrested Wednesday, while Cody East and Billingsley were taken into custody Thursday. Detectives said they also plan to issue an arrest warrant for a 16-year-old girl whose name was not released.
Deputies responded to Tara High around 10 a.m. Wednesday on a call of a possible gun on campus where they reportedly learned the 16-year-old girl, who they plan to charge, took an unloaded 9mm handgun to school and tried to sell it to another student.
Detectives believe Billingsley and the unidentified 16-year-old handled the gun. They said the investigation shows Cody East left the campus with the gun.
Authorities said they found Compton East with the gun at the St. Jean Apartments on South Harrells Ferry Road around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Investigators reported he tried to run over a deputy with his vehicle when they tried to question him about the case. They added he also allegedly used his vehicle to ram another deputy's unit that tried to block him, causing some damage to the EBRSO car.
According to detectives, the suspect jumped out of his vehicle and tossed a backpack over the fence. They said they had to use a taser to subdue him. They reported the gun believed to have been taken to the school to be sold was recovered from that booksack. They added a small amount of marijuana was also found on Compton East.
Compton East was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the following charges:
Resisting by force and violence
Resisting by aggravated flight
Aggravated damage to property
Attempted aggravated battery
Possession of marijuana
Possession of a firearm with a controlled dangerous substance
Cody East, Calen Billingsley and the unidentified 16-year-old boy each face a possession of a firearm on school campus charge.
The investigation is ongoing.
