NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) – New Orleans police are searching for vehicle that hit a police officer on a busy Garden District street.

The incident happened Wednesday around 1 a.m. at the intersection of St. Charles Avenue and Polynmia Street.

An officer approached a gold Chevrolet Trailblazer on foot.  The driver of the SUV ran into the officer and then drove away.  The officer shot at the vehicle as the driver fled the scene.  It is unclear if anyone in the Trailblazer was injured.  Investigators did not say why the officer was trying to walk up to the vehicle.

NOPD spokesperson Gary Flot said the officer suffered a knee injury.  He was taken to a local hospital where he is expected to be treated and released.

Flot said two men and one woman were in the vehicle.  They say the vehicle could have a possible bullet hole in the passenger's side door.  If you have any information call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
