Driver dies after veering off road and hitting pole

DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police said a man is dead after going off the road and slamming into a utility pole late Monday night.

The victim was identified as Ronald Skinner, 51, of White Castle.

The crash happened on LA 405 north of LA 1 near Brou Road between White Castle and Donaldsonville shortly after 11 p.m.

Troopers said their initial investigation showed Skinner was driving westbound on LA 405 in a 2012 Chevrolet truck when the vehicle drifted across the center line and went off the road on the other side.

They reported the pickup then went into a ditch and hit the pole.

Investigators said Skinner was not properly buckled and died from his injuries.

It is unknown whether or not he was impaired, so per protocol in deadly crashes, a sample of his blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

The investigation is ongoing.
