Police: Teacher leaves school, crashes into car, arrested for 2nd DWI

GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - An Ascension Christian Elementary School teacher has been arrested for her second offense DWI.

The teacher, 36-year-old Jamie Ingrassia, was arrested after hitting another vehicle at the intersection of Highway 30 and Highway 44 Monday morning. The crash happened before 10 a.m. Police say she drove away from the scene of the crash.

The woman who was hit by Ingrassia followed her and called in the license plate number to police.

Reports say when officers caught up to Ingrassia, they noticed she might be impaired and gave her a breathalyzer test. According to police, her blood alcohol content was .285. The legal limit is .08.

She reportedly told police she was on her way home after school administrators sent her home.

She was booked into the Ascension Parish Detention Center on charges of careless operation, hit and run, and DWI. No bond has been set.

Her previous DWI was in St. James Parish on June 6, 2013.

Household of Faith Church, the church for Ascension Christian High School, says they're still gathering the facts and has no other comment at this time.

A letter was sent to parents Monday afternoon from Ascension Christian Elementary Principal Brett Shelton saying : "This morning Mrs. Ingrassia was involved in an automobile accident." The letter also states that another teacher will be in the classroom through the remainder of the week. The letter also says "Please pray for God's healing touch to be with Mrs. Ingrassia and her family."
