Holden's office holds ACA education sessions

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Mayor Kip Holden's office has teamed up with federally funded health insurance navigators to present seven educational sessions about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) at East Baton Rouge Parish libraries.

The program, called Affordable Care Act 101, will offer one-on-one assistance from specially trained federal navigators and certified application counselors who will help residents evaluate the available health insurance coverage available through the federal Health Insurance Marketplace.

According to a news release, the counselors are trained to provide unbiased information in a culturally competent manner about health insurance, the new Health Insurance Marketplace, qualified health plans and public programs, including Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program.

Each session of Affordable Care Act 101 will consist of an educational video and a presentation on the Affordable Care Act, followed by a question-and-answer session. At that point, the ACA navigators and certified application counselors will be available to provide private assistance to individuals to help them understand the health insurance options and to determine which plan is right for them.
