BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Major changes will be taking place in the next couple of months at the Capital Area Transit System, or CATS.

CEO Bob Mirabito announced that CATS is planning to add ten new routes and improve some existing ones. Four new transfer centers will make rides shorter, and they will be adding 12 new busses. More jobs are expected to be available, too. They are looking to hire 140 bus drivers.

"We will have a park-and-ride at O'neal that will shoot Downtown," said Mirabito. "We will have an airport express service to Downtown. There will be an expansion of service in the Baker area," he added.

Mirabito says it is all part of its efforts to be more customer-friendly and to improve meeting the needs of its riders.

The new routes will take effect at the end of March. The company has hired an outside company to oversee the expansion as well as handle community outreach.
