BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

This time of year, many house fires can be ruled accidental and blamed on people trying to stay warm in the cold weather, but investigators believe a fire Sunday evening was intentionally set.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 3500 block of Wayne Drive just after 7 p.m. and found about 60 percent of the vacant home engulfed in flames.

Investigators have ruled the cause as arson. The family had just moved out about a month ago.

"It's kind of sad because we grew up in this neighborhood," the former homeowner said. "We had a lot of memories still left in the house. I only moved out a couple months ago. We had a lot of stuff we lost in there."

A nearby vacant home caught fire Thursday and arson has not been ruled out in that fire.

Fire investigators ask anyone with information about either fire to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
